in dancing Salsa are there different styles and do they start on different feet. Like Miami or New york?

8th March

I’m learning Miami style and women step back with the right foot. Then I took a New York Salsa class and I was taught to step back with my left foot. If a guy ask me to dance how will I know what style will he dance?

You don’t know for sure what style a guy will dance until you dance with hikm. If you are in New York you can expect NY2 probably.

You can always ask, of course. But if you just are relaxed and wait for him to take the first step you’ll feel which direction he’s going.

In all salsa except for NY2 the dance starts with the right foot back for the woman, like you learned in Miami. Here are some videos showing the main salsa dance styles.

LA Style (on1):

CUban style salsa (Casino) On1:
the most important difference between Casino and other salsa styles is that is is danced in a rotational pattern constantly moving in a circle, while other salsa styles are danced in a straight line back and forth (in-the-slot)

Any good things to know about salsa dancing?

8th March

A friend is teaching me how to salsa dance, using my boyfriend as my parter. I’m wondering if there’s anything salsa dancing that I should know ahead of time. Or any ways not to get myself killed dancing.
Any contributions help!
Thanks.

Dancing is muscle memory, Like riding a bike. There is nothing you can study. Just start riding and enjoy yourself.

Physically salsa is a cardiovascular exercise, so any workout you already do will help you dance longer. I also would recommend small stretch before you begin, to limber up your muscles.

so i have a dance, and i dont know how to dance salsa,I just want to learn the basic steps can anyone help me?

6th March

and i only have until thursday so like 2 days ahhh help.

Answering online will be kind of difficult, but basically it’s walking forward for 4 counts and backwards for four counts…with a LOT of hip! There are also nifty little turns and such, but…I don’t even know how to begin, it’s all 4-time based though. And generally the guy is the lead…
Depending on location, salsa can be danced a variety of ways…I’ve danced it side by side (that one is difficult and strange, it involves a lot of turns), and face to face (which is much easier!)…don’t worry about it too much though, and HAVE FUN!
